The word Mensch in German and Yiddish literally means, person, man or human being. But generally when you see it used, it means, being informed in your decisions, being sensitive to others people’s needs, and seeking out the the truth and ways to help others. Mensch: “person of strength and honor,” 1909, from Yiddish, from Ger., lit. “man, person.”
When you apply this to the 2008 Election, most people in America failed miserably in the category of Menschism…
We elected a man that we still know little about and most of what we do know is questionable or comes in several versions. Then we elected him again, when his administration was already riddled with questions, scandals, and hypocrisy, and now his policies like ObamaCare, that are fulfilling one his few true promises of fundamentally transforming America, are unfolding before our eyes in a wave of mistruths, spin and downright lies yet many are still unwilling or disinterested in taking the time to do the honest research required of citizens who want to live in a free Republic.
After the Constitutional Convention, it is said that a woman asked Benjamin Franklin, “What did you give us, Sir?” Franklin responded: “A Republic Madame, if you can keep it!?!” The Founding Fathers knew that in order for Americans to keep their freedoms and the Republic, that they had fought for and designed for us with fail-safes built in, the average American, all Americans, would need to remain engaged in the process and with current events; be educated in politics, history, and civics; and would need to exercise their common sense. Most Americans have done little of that in recent years.
Charles Krauthammer was recently asked as part of a special by Bret Baier surrounding Krauthammer’s book tour for, Things That Matter: Three Decades of Passions, Pastimes and Politics (Kindle), why he chose to move from psychiatry to politics as a profession. He responded, “Because I realized that if you get the politics right, everything else is right.” In the book he also explains why he changed parties and moved from being a Democrat to a Republican. Most wise and informed men (and women), including our Founding Fathers, would tell you that everything revolves around God (or religion) and politics… yet Americans have become so politically correct that they discuss little of either.
One of the fail-safes given to us by the Founders was a strong free press or media, so that they could (must) act as a check on the government. That is an aspect of the 2008 and 2012 Elections that was almost completely missing. The mainstream media is almost entirely both run and staffed by leftists who felt a tingle up their legs whenever Obama spoke in 2007 and 2008. They also no longer feel a need to separate news reporting from editorializing. In fact most of the networks and most journalists have become arms of the Progressive movement, the Obama administration and of the people who pull all their strings. And because most Americans do not take the time to educate themselves, are indoctrinated by not only the news but messages on their TV programs and other media, and they no longer learn much history nor critical thinking in school, the left has free range to influence just about everything and used that power in 2008 and since, to taint people’s minds in an attempt to destroy one of the most patriotic fighters to have come along in a very long time… perhaps since Ronald Reagan. And sadly far too many Americans bought into to the lies and propaganda with questioning or following their gut, even though Sarah was exonerated or proven right about everything she has said. Even leftists like Noam Chomsky and opponents like Howard Dean have admitted it.
How many Americans heard Sarah Palin speak at the 2008 Republican National Convention and were inspired if not mesmerized and filled with hope? Even the head of the women’s organization NOW in SoCal fell into that category and gave Sarah a rousing introduction at her first Rally in Cali after that speech, saying that Palin embodied the goal of the movement… She really had it all. Sarah Palin was and is smart, accomplished, charismatic, nice, relatable and was pretty to boot. She has a great husband and family, kids that aren’t perfect so is relatable, is grounded in her values, and her record in politics from the PTA to Governor of Alaska, until the Progressive left tried to destroy her, during and after her historical VP run, was more than impressive. So impressive that when they saw her charisma and connection with the people along with her strong values and love for America, they were filled with fear… and the word went out to destroy Sarah Palin using Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals (Kindle), the left’s Bible, and every dirty trick they could come up with. And sadly most Americans believed it without question… and without facts. The left didn’t need them, they had created Palin Derangement Syndrome.
During times of great crisis and strife, leaders appear, but it is each of our jobs to recognize those leaders, support them, spread the word and stand by them. That is what America did not do. We let the tail wag the dog… we let the 20% that consider themselves the Progressive left (liberals) control the thinking of far too many of the 45% who consider themselves Fiscal Conservatives and Constitutionalists and pretty much all of the remaining 35% who are Independents, Moderates or just don’t care… and we allowed them to do it with lies. Plus many of those who knew the attacks were false and lies kept quiet or only talked to people who were like minded.
In a recent Watcher’s Council forum, the question was Do You Have Friends Or Family With Opposite Political Views, And Are You Able To Ever Discuss Politics With Them?:
When I got to college I was the the exception to Sir Winston Churchill’s observation (which very well might have changed), “If you’re not a liberal at 20, you have no heart; if you’re not a conservative at 40, you have no brain”, so I often found myself as the lonely Conservative in a sea of Liberals or at least malcontents in my political science classes which prepared me for competition in the world of debate, which I did pretty well at. The problem in today’s environment is that Liberals don’t like to debate because facts get in the way. It is much easier to follow the Alinsky Rules for Radicals (Kindle) and just demonize and attack… even when you are wrong; something our President and his minions know and use all too well.
We recently spent a couple days with family, after the death and service of our family’s crazy (but brilliant) uncle, on their territory; usually they came to visit us for the holidays. He, his immediate family, and their friends were all brilliant academic elites, students and then professors from the Ivy League and Stanford or had evolved into journalists. One of their friends was so thrilled to mention that they had seen Chelsea Clinton at the local coffee shop they frequent, but never once was former Republican Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice who teaches at Stanford and also frequents that shop mentioned. And then there was the small shrine to Obama in the office back at the house. It was my greatest joy to watch their faces when my husband said, “My wife is a Sarah Palin supporter!”, a name that immediately drains the color from any Progressive’s face from fear if they were honest enough to admit it. It lead to quite the conversation and a lot of eye-opening corrections to unending misinformation on their part, which again proves that someone can be brilliant and highly educated yet extremely under or misinformed! In fact a cousin had actually interviewed Sarah Palin for her newspaper and went on and on in amazement about how nice Sarah the whole family was, as if she just couldn’t let that sink in and stick.
If saving the America we grew up in is part of your agenda, arm yourself with information, step out of your comfort zone and speak-up. You will learn to love the debate!
If you don’t like (or think you hate) Sarah Palin, but don’t really know why; if you don’t know much about her, or if you love her but don’t have all the facts… be a Mensch and educate yourself about her. Palin will play a pivotal part in the 2014 Elections, as she did in 2010 and 2012, and she could very well be running herself in 2016. Therefore, Americans need to give themselves the chance to really know the truth about Sarah Palin and any and all candidates. Former Senator Jim DeMint and now head of the Heritage Foundation will tell you that Sarah Palin’s influence is not diminishing! There is no greater endorsement a Conservative (Republican or Independent) can get than from Sarah Palin; the people she has helped to victory call her the Kingmaker; and most ‘in the know’ on both sides believe she is electable and could win, sending waves of fear or joy down the spins of many, depending which camp you are in. For those who either don’t or choose not to remember that McCain-Palin were ahead in the polls after Palin joined the ticket, Greta Van Susteren pulled out the old polls. 2016 could just be the election of the first U.S. female president. Let us make sure that it isn’t the wrong female and not just an extension of the Obama presidency, which America cannot survive!
Arm yourself and get out there and help inform the uninformed!! IF you have not seen Undefeated… buy and watch it. If you have, share it!
Palin has had a busy week. She was a speaker at Reverend Billy Graham’s 95th Birthday Event, spoke at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition where she and Senator Mike Lee took some time to visit with local service dog trainers, and is touring the country for her new book: ‘Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas’ (Kindle).
Earlier today, former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, joined NBC’s Matt Lauer of ‘The Today Show’ and weighed in with her perspective on the Obamacare rollout debacle, the state of the GOP going forward along with the Tea Party, Chris Christie, the Tea Party itself and her new book, Good Tidings and Great Joy… as only Sarah can:
Be a Mensch and know why you like or don’t like someone; know who and why you are voting for someone; and do the research yourself so you can be a person of strength and honor that knows the truth that the Founding Fathers of America could be proud of and so that we can keep the Republic that they pledged and gave their lives, honor and fortunes for… that we in-turn need to safeguard for the next generation.
