Ann Coulter on Boston Bombing Suspect’s Wife and ‘The Five’ on Immigration and Extremism

TheBlaze: On Monday night, the always controversial conservative commentator Ann Counter appeared on Fox News’ “Hannity” to discuss the latest developments in the Boston Marathon bombing. And by Tuesday morning she was making headlines for it.

Among the topics discussed was Katherine Russell, widow of deceased terror suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev. While commenting about Russell, Coulter made some controversial claims and quips about immigration, assimilation – and clitorectomies.

It’s been widely reported that the alleged bomber’s wife converted to Islam after meeting Tsarnaev. Despite being raised a Christian, she now reportedly embraces Koranic teaching and wears a traditional hijab. Coulter, using the woman to make more wide-ranging determinations, took aim at Russell.

“She ought to be in prison for wearing a hijab,” the commentator said. “This immigration policy of, you know, us assimilating immigrants into our culture isn’t really working.”

She wasn’t done.

“No they’re assimilating us into their culture. Did she get a clitorectomy, too?,” she asked.

Host Sean Hannity paused and then said, “Well, I don’t know the answer to that.” He promptly moved on and the two continued discussing the case. It seems clear Coulter was likely overemphasizing these themes to make a grander point, however her critics likely won’t see it that way.

A clitorectomy is also known as female genital mutilation and is sometimes used in cultural and religious practice to suppress female pleasure. The procedure is widely regarded as a horrific and barbaric practice.

Amazingly, although coming from a different angle, Democrat Bob Beckel, (…Who worked for Robert F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign in 1968 while in college; joined the U.S. Department of State early in his career and became the youngest deputy assistant secretary of state for the Carter administration. Beckel was the campaign manager for Walter Mondale’s 1984 presidential campaign. During that campaign he became known as the man who effectively wrapped the Wendy’s slogan "Where’s the Beef?" around Gary Hart, Mondale’s opponent for the Democratic nomination.) was looking at the Boston Marathon Bombing from the same angle… Perhaps time to stop immigration from certain countries, areas of the world or for certain groups. On Monday’s "The Five" on Fox News, Democrat Bob Beckel made a startling call for a moratorium on all student visas for Muslims.

“In the Muslim communities around the world, they do not like us, I think we really have to consider, given the fact that so many people hate us, that we’re going to have to cut off Muslim students coming to this country for some period of time so that we can absorb what we’ve got, and look at what we’ve got, and decide whether some of the people here should be sent back home or to prison.”

If Bill O’Reilly or Sean Hannity had made such a suggestion on Fox News there’d be calls for their jobs. If Rush Limbaugh had said it, Media Matters would be intimidating his advertisers into dropping any association with him.

Is Beckel getting a pass because he’s a liberal Democrat? Or because he is right?

Usually the bullies at Media Matters for America employ their rapid response team to call out such views as "bigoted and intolerant," but as of Tuesday morning, they’ve ignored it.

As the debate over immigration continues in the Senate, it will be interesting to see if any other Democrats take on the Beckel proposal and shut down student visas for any foreign student who happens to be Muslim.

Some food for thought… for what America has long forgotten is that immigration is to help our country (any country that allows people in)… not to help those who want to come here and be a burden… or worse yet hate America. Immigration bill debate was sidetracked following Boston bombings. Perhaps it is time to take a serious look at our entire immigration philosophy as well as the entire broken system and policy… especially with the less than enthusiastic reaction of the Gang of Eight’s plan being called Amnesty Rubio Style….
