Urgent Impassioned Campaign Against Gun Violence Interrupted for Vacation and Some Golf Lessons… Hmmm?

By Marion Algier

"Gun Ownership at All-Time High, Nation’s Murder Rate at Nearly All-Time Low… Hmmm?!? Has Someone Told Obama? Or is that why Obama has time to vacation and golf in the middle of his impassioned (created) campaign against gun violence??

HotAir wrote: I know what you’re thinking but let’s be fair. If he took a break from insinuating that gun-rights supporters don’t care about children getting shot for nothing more than a few lessons with the local club pro, that would be callous. But he’s not. He’s taking a break from those insinuations for lessons with thousand-bucks-an-hour top pro instructor Butch Harmon. He’s not taking this gun-control thing lightly, guys. Not now, I mean. He took it pretty lightly for the past 10 years or so, especially during election years, but now he’s serious. Or he will be, once he finally gets the kinks out of his swing.

Rest assured, he’ll be back on the trail soon working hard on not solving the problem.

The President’s golfing weekend at The Floridian GC in Palm City, Fla., will include more than golf on a Tom Fazio course or an afternoon of ball beating at the Harmon School of Golf on campus. The Harmons, Butch and son Claude III, are flying in to work with President Obama, who inquired through an aide if they would be on property during his stay…

“He’s a left-handed player, I’ve seen film of his swing before,” said Harmon, who analyzed Obama’s swing when the President first took office. “It’ll be fun to get him down in the learning center, show him stuff in his golf game and see how he takes it to the course. He’s just like all of us that play golf. He wants to get better.”

Bush famously golfed in his down time, and was famously castigated for it, until 2003 when he stopped because he couldn’t justify an elite leisure pastime when Americans and their allies were suffering in Iraq. Well, we’re out of Iraq now; America’s suffering is over. Tee it up. Here’s The One this afternoon in Chicago, the current gun-control capital of the U.S. and the gun-violence capital of the U.S., calling for more gun control, naturally. But not just gun control; this clip captures him in a rare moment of genuine insight, not just pushing the talking points du jour.

Hmmm… and could that be because this is all a ruse for control not a fight for safety from gun violence?  In fact: 4 People Shot Within 90 Minutes in Chicago After President Obama’s Departure… the city with probably the toughest gun laws in the United States.

President Barack Obama spoke about his new gun control initiatives during a quick visit to his hometown of Chicago Friday, but the violence in one of the most dangerous cities in the United States did not abate.

The Politico relates:

Four separate shootings took place in the span of 90 minutes Friday evening in Chicago, the first coming less than an hour after Air Force One departed O’Hare Airport after President Obama spoke on the culture of gun violence and economic decay that plagues many cities, including his hometown.

[…]

An hour earlier, Obama wrapped up a personal speech at Hyde Park Academy on the South Side, where he mourned the killing of Hadiya Pendleton, the teen who visited Washington for his inauguration just a week before she was gunned down not far from the school. “This is not just a gun issue. It’s also an issue of the kinds of communities that we’re building, and for that we all share a responsibility as citizens to fix it,” he said.

Obama had said little about Chicago’s murder problem — there were more than 500 in 2012 — before Friday, instead focusing on mass shootings in his post-Newtown gun control push. But at a high school just two miles away from his Chicago home, he acknowledged the depths of devastation that street violence generated in the city.

“Last year, there were 443 murders with a firearm in this city, and 65 of them were 18 and under. That’s the equivalent of a Newtown every four months,” he said. “That’s precisely why the overwhelming majority of Americans are asking for some common sense proposals to make it harder for criminals to get their hands on a gun.” [Emphasis added]

Chicago already has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, but some legislators say looser gun laws in neighboring states cancel out their efforts.

According to the Chicago Tribune, 3 men and a woman were the victims of Friday night’s 90-minute crime wave. The woman died; the men did not.

Odds of Dying in America in a Given Year

The reality is that Gun Ownership is at an All-Time High, but the Nation’s Murder Rate at Nearly an All-Time Low…  And the Feds have admitted that Gun Laws Won’t Slow Crime.  In fact, a study by the Department of Justice’s National Institute of Justice has the feds admitting that so-called “assault weapons” are not a major contributor to gun crime.

guns-340x196The study also concluded those weapons are not a major factor in deaths caused by firearms.

The NIJ, the department’s research wing, found an “assault weapons” ban would be ineffective.

“The existing stock of assault weapons is large, undercutting the effectiveness of bans with exemptions,” it said. “Therefore a complete elimination of assault weapons would not have a large impact on gun homicides.”

The report finds no significant link between “assault weapons” and murders.

“Since assault weapons are not a major contributor to U.S. gun homicides and the existing stock of guns is large, an assault weapon ban is unlikely to have an impact on gun violence,” the report said.

The document, titled “Summary of Select Firearm Violence Prevention Strategies,” also sees ‘no’ epidemic of mass shootings.

“Fatalities from mass shootings (those with 4 or more victims in a particular place and time) account on average for 35 fatalities per year,” the report said.

The report advises a more comprehensive approach.

“Policies that address the larger firearm homicide issue will have a far greater impact even if they do not address the particular issues of mass shootings,” the report said.

The study also found a number of reasons why gun buybacks are ineffective as generally implemented: “1. The buybacks are too small to have an impact. 2. The guns turned in are at low risk of ever being used in a crime. 3. Replacement guns are easily acquired. Unless these three points are overcome, a gun buyback cannot be effective.”

The report, by Greg Ridgeway, deputy director, said restricting large capacity magazines has a “great potential to reduce lethality,” but that would require a massive reduction in the supply.

“In order to have an impact, large capacity magazine regulation needs to sharply curtail their availability to include restrictions on importation, manufacture, sale, and possession. An exemption for previously owned magazines would nearly eliminate any impact. The program would need to be coupled with an extensive buyback of existing large capacity magazines. With an exemption the impact of the restrictions would only be felt when the magazines degrade or when they no longer are compatible with guns in circulation. This would take decades to realize.”

The report undermines most of the talking points by the Obama administration in its pursuit of more limits on guns, ammunition and accessories.

The administration’s campaign was launched following the Newtown, Conn., massacre that killed 20 students and six adults.

The report noted that a 2000 study by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms revealed that 47 percent of crime guns are obtained through a straw purchase, and another 26 percent are stolen.

“These figures indicate informal transfers dominate the crime gun market. A perfect universal background check system can address the gun shows and might deter many unregulated private sellers. However this does not address the largest sources (straw purchase and theft), which would most likely become larger if background checks at gun shows and private sellers were addressed.”

But what about not resting until every American that wants to work has a job? As Rush realized in his epiphany while watching the State of the Union… Obama will Never Be Held Accountable of Anything… Obama is the Eternal Campaigner… Says one thing while his team and handlers (the global puppet masters) do another… manipulating the uninformed while fundamentally transforming America using the Cloward-Piven Strategy and the Alinsky Tactics, just like when he was the Community Organizer… as most Americans sleep in America – Land of the Mis, Under and Low Informed!

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, February 17, 2013 — On Monday, the Colorado House will convene to consider, and will likely pass, four gun control laws that will strip Colorado citizens of their right to bear arms, guaranteed up until now by both the U.S. and Colorado Constitutions.

The four laws are:

House Bill 1224 – Bans magazines with a capacity greater than fifteen rounds.

House Bill 1226 – Repeals current law allowing individuals with a concealed carry permit to carry a firearm for self-defense on a college or university campus.

House Bill 1228 – Imposes a “gun tax” for a background check when purchasing a firearm.

House Bill 1229 – Criminalizes the private transfer of a firearm.

About Ask Marion

I am a babyboomer and empty nester who savors every moment of my past and believes that it is the responsibility of each of us in my generation and Americans in general to make sure that America is as good or even a better place for future generations as it was for us. So far... we haven't done very well!! Favorite Quotes: "The first 50 years are to build and acquire; the second 50 are to leave your legacy"; "Do something that scares you every day!"; "The journey in between what you once were and who you are becoming is where the dance of life really takes place". At age 62 I find myself fighting inoperable uterine Cancer and thanks to the man upstairs and the prayers from so many people including many of my readers from AskMarion and JustOneMorePet... I'm beating it. After losing our business because of the economy and factors related to the re-election of President Obama in 2012 followed by 16-mos of job hunting, my architect-trained husband is working as a trucker and has only been home approximately 5-days a month since I was diagnosed, which has made everything more difficult and often lonely... plus funds are tight. Our family medical deductible is 12K per year for two of us; thank you ObamaCare. But thanks to donations from so many of you, we are making ends meet as I go through treatment while taking care of my father-in-law who is suffering from late stage Alzheimer's and my mother-in-law who suffers from RA and onset dementia as well as hearing loss, for which there are no caretaker funds, as I continue the fight here online to inform and help restore our amazing country. And finally I need to thank a core group of family, friends, and readers... all at a distance, who check in with me regularly. Plus, I must thank my furkids who have not left my side through this fight. You can see them at JustOneMorePet.
