Yeah… This Friday, 2/10 from 8P to about Mid-night PST, are the Opening Ceremonies for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games, which will run through the Closing Ceremonies on 2/26.
It has just been announced that Luciano Pavarotti as well as the ballet core from Milan’s World Famous La Scalla will be performing at the Opening Ceremonies to techno-rave music.
There is something about the Olympics that is just breath-taking to me. It is a magical place where for two weeks the greatest athletes representing the bulk of the countries of the world come together in harmony, as a family, and compete to win their individual medals, yet make more strides toward world peace than all the delegations and politians rolled into one. It is one of those special events like Christmas or a trip to Disneyland that makes us all better, kinder and happier.
How the story grows:
If Kwan does the impossible and wins gold, they can shut down the Olympics right then and everybody else goes home. Even if the U.S. star is in medal contention after the short program, the final routine becomes a great melodrama.
How the story is eclipsed:
Kwan can lack the tougher technical elements on the first day, tumble down in the standings, and make only a token feel-good appearance in the long program. In that case, Sasha Cohen, Irina Slutskaya of Russia or Carolina Kostner of Italy could steal the spotlight
